چکیده

Developmental venous anomalies (DVA) are congenital variants of cerebral veins, found incidentally at autopsy in 2.6% of the population, which are most often asymptomatic. Symptomatic compression of a cranial nerve by the collecting vein of a DVA is extremely rare, such as tinnitus from compression of the vestibulocochlear nerve. A 51-year-old man presented with 1 week of intermittent vertigo and mild left-sided dysmetria. Imaging showed contact of the left vestibular nerve by the collecting vein of a cerebellar DVA (figures 1 and 2). We speculate that the symptoms were caused by transient migration of the cisternal segment of the collecting vein. Management was conservative with spontaneous resolution.

Abnormal Development of Cerebral Dural Sinuses and Jugular Vein

Developmental abnormalities of the cerebral venous system occur due to stopped development of the venous system and continuing primitive embryonal veins draining into an abnormal draining vein. Association with occult vascular malformations was detected in patients with developmental venous anomalies in 40 %; it represents a risk of intracerebral bleeding. Therefore, further monitoring of the p...

Developmental Venous Anomaly Complicated by Cerebral Venous Infarction

Developmental venous anomaly is a vascular malformation thought to be a benign embryologic variant. We describe a patient who presented with focal neurological deficits and parathesia due to an infarct associated with a developmental venous anomaly with a thrombosed draining vein.

Successful Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy in the Presence of an Intraventricular Developmental Venous Anomaly: Case Report

Cerebral cavernous malformations are commonly associated with a developmental venous anomaly. Sparing this anomaly is considered important as it frequently is part of the venous drainage of normal brain parenchyma. We present a case in which a developmental venous anomaly of the third ventricle associated with a thalamic cavernous malformation increased the degree of difficulty of successful en...

Surgical Treatment of Venous Varix Associated with a Cerebral Developmental Venous Anomaly

Venous varix occurring with a developmental venous anomaly is a rare disease entity that may be found incidentally by conventional cerebral angiography. Developmental venous anomaly (DVA) without venous varix has a normal physiology, and thus, in most cases treatment is not necessary. Although most varices with venous anomalies are known to be clinically silent but if hemorrhage from increased ...

De novo development of a lesion with the appearance of a cavernous malformation adjacent to an existing developmental venous anomaly.

A case is presented in which a complex multicystic hemosiderin-containing lesion developed adjacent to a previously documented developmental venous anomaly (venous angioma). This lesion had the characteristic MR imaging appearance of a cavernous malformation. Follow-up MR imaging demonstrated a decrease in both the size and complexity of this lesion, which suggests at least a portion of the les...

Increased Prevalence of Developmental Venous Anomalies in Children with Intracranial Neoplasms.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Developmental venous anomalies are considered variants of venous development that, in and of themselves, are of little clinical import. A possible association between intrinsic brain tumors and developmental venous anomalies has been suggested, but a rigorous investigation has not been performed. The aim of this study was to assess any association between developmental ve...
